Kerryman Newspaper Records

Founded in 1904, the Kerryman is one Ireland most popular regional newspapers. In 1939 the paper was taken over by Dan Nolan from his father. Having become managing director of the Kerryman the day before war broke out he promptly bought as much paper as he could even though the price per tonne had had rocketed from 15 pounds to as much as 25 pounds in a matter of days. The Kerryman has three editions North, South and Tralee. The Kerryman archives are a wonderful resource for all those interested in family genealogical research with their detailed births, deaths (obituaries) and marriages. The provincial press was also far less censored by the British authorities than their national equivalent. As a result they give both the professional and amateur historian a unique perspective of Ireland?s turbulent past as well as the local impact of major national and international events.
