The Irishman

The Irishman was published early 1916 by Herbert Moore Pim in Belfast. The founder and editor Herbert Moore Pim was a controversial figure in Ireland’s history. Herbert Moore Pim converted to Catholicism and adopted not just the religious but also the political and cultural traditions of Irish Catholicism.

The Irishman was published early 1916 by Herbert Moore Pim in Belfast. The founder and editor Herbert Moore Pim was a controversial figure in Ireland’s history. Herbert Moore Pim converted to Catholicism and adopted not just the religious but also the political and cultural traditions of Irish Catholicism. Pim took part in the 1916 Easter Rising and for short period after Pim directed Sinn Féin affairs.
The journal combined poetry and literature with Sinn Féin policy documents and articles.  It also campaigned against sexual immorality, in which Pim was enthusiastically supported by Lord Douglas.  Pim’s campaign against ‘unclean literature’ earned the approbation of Cardinal Logue.
