On this day in 1938, it was made public that MGM had bought the rights to adapt L. Frank Baum’s beloved children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for the screen. It went to become one of the timeless classics of cinematography.

This day in 1907 is a significant date for Psychology as it marks the first meeting between Psychiatrists Carl Gustav Jung and Sigmund Freud in Vienna. Their collaboration had a lasting influence on the further development of their respective theories.

In 1936, Shirley Temple, only 7 at the time, started to get paid the unprecedented sum of $50,000 per picture by Century Fox. They also famously altered the year on her birth certificate, making it appear that she was a year younger in order to prolong her adorable child-star status.

28th of February 1953, is the day when scientists James D. Watson and Frances H.C. Crick announce that they have determined the double-helix structure of DNA. The discovery solved the mystery of genetic inheritance.
